Materials & Wind Load for Tyler Patio Covers

The pretty part is the pan color. The part that survives a storm is the alloy, footing and ledger. Ask these questions before you sign.

Your request goes to an independent East Texas patio cover and pergola builder. No obligation.

Frame and Pan Specs Worth Hearing Out Loud

Footings in East Texas Clay

Shrink-swell clay moves. Posts that are only surface-bolted to a 3½″ patio slab can work loose. Ask for footing diameter and depth, whether the slab will be core-drilled, and how water drains away from each post base.

Wind-Load Conversation

Builders should be able to say what wind speed the frame is designed for and how the ledger or freestanding posts take uplift. If the answer is only “we’ve never had one blow away,” keep asking. Local amendments and IRC/IBC references vary — the permit reviewer is the authority, not this website.
